Working in the ricefield
Ricefield or "Taramnan" in my dialect
This is the most common occupation in my place, Sebaste Antique in the island of Panay. In order to gain rice or earn money from it, lot of works are needed.Plowing or "Pag-aararo"
This is the only way to clean the field before it can be used. This also helps to remove grasses and other unwanted plants in the area as well as smoothing the soil or mud.Pre- plowing with a waterbuffalo or "Carabao"
Finishing plowing with a hand-tractor or "turtle / kuliglig"
Planting
Planting rice can be made in two ways. Rices can be spread thoughout the field using rice's seeds that have been washed and reserved for planting or we can call it "direct". The other way is to spread the seeds first in the field and later when they are about 1 month old, they can be replanted with hands as we called it "tanum" in my dialect.Direct planting
Replanting method or "Tanum"
Removing unwanted grasses
This can be done in two ways; by hands or by sprying medicines for killing them.Removing grasses with hands or "Panghilamon"
Sprying by using medicines or "Pag-eespray"
Fertilizing or "Pag-aabono"
Watering or "Pagpapatubig"
Harvesting or "Pag-aani"
In the video is my brother Dodong who harvesting rice. People must use a special curved-knife or "Garab" when doing this. This is how it looks like when doing "humong ", my dialect word for lying all of the gathered rices in one place.
Here is a tresher used to separate the ricegrains from its stems.
The ricegrains should be placed inside sacks for more uses.
Some sacks can be used for planting and mostly are for foods. Here is a picture from my place in Antique where people usually dry ricegrains on the side of the roads.
When the rice are dried, it is ready to be grounded. This is to remove grain's skin from the rice.
In my country, Philippines, rice is the common daily food. There are two types of farmers that make the ricefield function. They are the owners and the workers. Owners who own it, pay or provide rices to the workers as payment for working. In this way, the workers who mostly are poor, can have foods too.
